What IF?

What if the prodigal son had NOT come to his senses.  What if he entertained other ways of getting out of his mess?  Maybe one of his worldly peers would make him a little “off color” business offer.  Maybe he could go back into the city streets and sell his body.  Maybe he could live as a begger (on welfare). Maybe if he just hung in there long enough for the farmer to recognize that he was a good hired hand, he would get a promotion. Who knows he may have even found great success as a hired hand and continued in what he thought to be a good independent life without his father.  There could have been other options open to him.

But, remember what his father said when his son returned?  “for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found” in Luke 15:24.  The son was lost and dead!  If the son had not come home, he would still be dead!

Do you understand?  Without living in the Eternal Life of the Father, we are dead!  That is why Jesus/Yeshua made the way back to the Father for us.  He is the Way, the Road back home.

John 3:16-19, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes (Greek: to keep on believing in, relying, trusting, and abiding) in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

Sobering thoughts.  Have we come to our senses and come home to abide with our Father or are we still choosing the way/road of the world?
