I am a Christ follower, a disciple. I believe Yeshua/Jesus is the Son of God and my Savior and with faith in my heart, I choose to now live my life in Him. So, now what?
Jesus informed his disciples of this next step before He ascended into heaven. In Acts 1, “ He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, which you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now……you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Jesus had already told them about the Holy Spirit prior to His crucifixion. In John 14:26, we see one example…”But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
When I was a very little girl, my mother taught me about Jesus and how to talk with Him. So, I would sit on our back steps and talk with Jesus. I learned early that Jesus loves me and I had no trouble having a relationship with Him. When I got older, I was introduced to the holy, almighty, all-seeing Father Creator. I came to reverence Him with fear and trembling. I did not know until much later that through Jesus I could now also have a loving relationship with my Heavenly Father. I had a good earthly father, so it was not difficult for me to come to know my Heavenly Father.
But, then I became aware of the Holy Spirit or in church sometimes called the Holy Ghost. He was much more difficult for me to comprehend. How do I relate to a Holy Spirit? My breakthrough came in learning that He is a person the same as Jesus, and similarly invisible in this world. But, He is as surely in it as the wind. And His effects are as visible as seeing the effects of the wind.
Jesus words make me believe that people can be disciples, baptized in the water of repentance; but there is more. Before we can be His powerful witnesses and ambassadors in His ministry, we must be baptized in the Holy Spirit. We need to work with the Holy Spirit and in His power to do God’s work. We need to know the Holy Spirit too! You may know Jesus and you may know the Father Creator…do you know the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is also “at hand” and only a prayer away. Didn’t Jesus say that when we ask according to His will and in His name, He will give us what we ask for? Jesus has told us it is His will that we ask and receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit….that He might dwell in us and empower us to live as God would have us live. So, just ask….believe, receive, trust in, depend on, rely on, and continue in daily relationship with….and you too will come to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. It will always agree with the Word of God! And what an adventure lies before you!
