Parables of Our Personal Intent

There was a subsistence farmer who owned a few acres of land.  Every year he labored hard and to his best efforts to support his family.  He was a good moral man.  It happens that under the soil he owned and worked, there were precious gems of which he was unaware.  One day while digging a deep asparagus trench, he came across one of these gems.  Being he was wise… once, he began to give priority attention to digging deep in order to search for more.

Jesus told similar parables…Matthew 13: 44-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells ALL that he has and buys that field.  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold ALL that he had and bought it.”

Are we just digging in the surface soil of what we own or are we searching for the precious pearl of exceeding value by giving our ALL?
