Read Matthew 7: 24-27 again. “Therefore whoever HEARS these sayings of Mine, and DOES them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and DOES NOT DO them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
I am thinking that some people build on the sand because they are deceived. Someone has told them it is safe and solid – so they believe it. Someone has told them that it is more fun to live on the sandy beach. Maybe the world has put a lot of monetary value on that sandy property – so how could the whole world be wrong? It might be easy to decide, “Looks good. I’ll buy it!”
It reminds me of the coastlines of America and the world. People want to live right off the ocean and pay big prices to do so. But, the Word of God says that the seas are going to roar! Sandy ocean side beaches can be very stormy places…. built on sandy foundations! And when the huge storms come, the fall is great! I remind you of the terrible tsunamis and hurricanes in past recent years.
If we can see this in the natural world, how can we apply it to our spiritual lives? First, am I faithful to listen to the voice of God….to seek Him out personally and passionately desire truth? Second, am I faithful to follow through and do what He says is best….even if it does not seem like it will be as much fun or as pleasant or what the world thinks? Do not be deceived, be faithful. First be sure of who you believe. Then, be sure that what you believe is truth.
