Do You Feel The Sorrow?

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4.

We live in a world that pushes positive thinking and warm fuzzy feelings.  But, have you also felt the sorrow in this world?  We live in a fallen world with fallen people and the current ruler/adversary of this world is evil. This brings great grief and mourning to everyone.  Jesus said we would all have trouble in this world.

We need to have wisdom about this.  Yes, rejoice in Jesus, but with eyes wide open.  We need to be careful we are not deceived into satan’s false comforts.  He will present us with many worldly comforts so that we will not seek the comfort God provides.  Satan’s comforts all sound wonderful, happy, pleasing to our flesh, able to lift us up, enlightening, and very positive.  That is the way of deceit.

Jesus faced these same temptations after His 40 day fast in the wilderness  (Matthew 4).  Temptations come by offering comfort through the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.  Jesus was fasting in prayer and petitions.  I do not think it was all praise and rejoicing.  He hungered.  Likely He was praying concerning the condition of people and His beginning ministry to them.  He held fast to His Father.  When Jesus resisted and defeated the temptations of Satan, He was comforted.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4.

Again, Jesus taught that we would have trouble in the world.  And positive thinking and warm fuzzies (sandy foundations) will not overcome or withstand the storm.  Jesus teaches us how to face trouble with Him in truth.  Remember, we are not alone anymore in this world.  We are building on the Rock to prepare for the storms and be comforted and rejoice in Him!

    1. Yes, but there is a difference in being positive based on faith in God rather than being positive by your own mental positive thinking. I believe you know this. But, i am concerned about a world who does not. They try to find positive thinking and happiness in worldly ways…and that is not solid Rock foundation. I even think Satan can use false positives to distract us from going to God….. a deception that at first seems harmless and even “happy”, but leads to a huge fall in the end. It is a matter of where and who your positivity is coming from…right?
