Have you ever thought there might be a wrong kind of comfort? Everyone wants to be comfortable…me included! It is what we strive for! Is it possible we are striving so much for worldly comfort, that we disregard the comfort of the Holy Spirit? I think this might be one of Satan’s best deceptions.
We may strive for the world’s comforts as our main priority and get off track. Check out 1 Timothy 6:10, “ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, in their eagerness to get rich, have wandered away from the faith and caused themselves a lot of pain.”
Or we may be anxious about our needs and comforts. Matthew 6:25, “ That’s why I am telling you to stop worrying about your life – what you will eat or what you will drink – or about your body – what you will wear. Life is more than food, isn’t it, and the body more than clothing?”
Or another deception is to make people so comfortable and entertained that they think they do not need God. Therefore, they will not search for/trust in/follow the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.”
Jesus also teaches about this in Revelation 3: 17-22, “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says…”
What kind of comfort are you treasuring and seeking?
Matthew 6: 19-21, “ Stop storing up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But keep on storing up treasure for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal, because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
