We believe our Creator God is holy and therefore is against evil/sin and destroys it. He must uphold what is good and true and be intolerant of evil. He truly has a moral righteous standard (even if the world says everything is relative or subjective). We believe that humans have a fallen nature that cannot meet His standard. Simply, the worldly way is to act like selfish and rebellious untrained children.
Have you ever found yourself in a pit or going the wrong way? We have a problem….as sinful beings we are under the curse that comes with evil/sin. A good father cannot tolerate bad behavior or he is no longer good. Thankfully, our Creator Father has a solution……build His right Rock foundation…..beginning with the Savior Yeshua/ Jesus. Receive the Holy Spirit and His leading inside your heart that you may learn and grow in the Holy Father’s right ways (righteousness).
Everything begins in the heart, our most basic inner being. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23. If my relationship with Yeshua/ Jesus is the primary focus of my heart, then I will grow and be trained in righteousness. If “self” or “comforts of the flesh” are the primary focus of my heart, then I will grow in worldliness and corruption.
Even with His great salvation, we still fail in righteousness! That is why there is the gift of repentance and forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9. Our Father is so full of mercy! (Looking ahead, that is the next verse in Matthew 5.)
But, forgiveness is conditioned on knowing the truth of what is righteous and then humbling ourselves by repenting through confession….with a desire to change/obey towards righteousness. This growing process is called sanctification. Our hearts are right when we are hungry and thirsty to grow in following His ways (holiness). In pursuing righteousness, we continue to build on the Rock foundation….towards a stable and satisfying life.
