Have you noticed the verse that follows our pursuit of righteousness n Matthew 5:6?
Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”
I know we are not done with righteousness yet, but I sure do need some mercy about now. When I work on righteousness, I realize how far I am from it. And it is hard to unlearn and relearn thoughts and habits. I fail at obedience and it grieves me. So, I remember mercy and forgiveness.
1 John 1:6-9, “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourseleves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
We are back to our Rock foundation in Jesus! When I repent and my heart clings to Him, then He makes me righteousness, and our fellowship continues! He has overcome sin so that it cannot hold me back from Him! This is His love and mercy in action and in my real life! He never leaves me or forsakes me!
I am in the good fight of faith. I will not quit. I will not be perfect in this earthly life, but I will strive to become more like Him. I am truly thankful for His instructions, training and discipline. His love and mercy as Savior draws me to keeping Him Lord in my life. Being on the receiving side of such awesome and abundant mercy, how could I ever not be merciful to others?
Thank you Heavenly Father, Yeshua/Jesus my Savior and Lord, and Holy Spirit for your rich mercy and love towards me! I repent of my falling short of righteousness and my disobedience to Your Word. I repent of my submitting to my flesh and the world instead of submitting to You and Your good ways. Help me to change and become more like You. I will stand up and try again. Holy Spirit help me! I cannot do this alone. Thank You, thank You, thank You for your continual and consistent love, mercy, and forgiveness! Thank You for picking me up and holding me close when I fall. Thank You for Your open arms and comforting embrace. How I treasure Your love and mercy! I love You.
