This sounds like a chapter written to the American Christian church. It is so similar to the lukewarm rich Laodicean church in Revelation 3. America’s abundant wealth has rotted and ruined her. Her riches and worldly treasures are rusted through, used up, and soon worn out. Yet, she has heaped up treasures for her pleasure. Her wealthy have robbed their laborers and withheld reasonable wages. She abandons herself to soft loose living in self indulgence, self-gratification, and immorality. She has bullied others for her own gain. She even persecutes righteousness and followers of Yeshua Jesus. But woe and misery for surely judgment is coming upon her.
What is a peacemaker to do in such circumstances? Peacemakers are told to stay in peace…hold fast and endure. Be steadfast to truth and do good. Speak truth and stay true to our words. Let our “yes” mean “yes” and our “no” mean no….make no extra promises. Pray for one another. Pray for the sick. Pray and encouraging one another to repentance. Pray in the power of the Holy Spirit for God’s work to be done in the earth. Pray for provision. And love one another enough that if anyone sees a brother going off in the wrong direction away from Truth, then speak the truth in love to bring them back to God! Hold fast to our God of Peace in our own heart and then hold fast to peace with one another. We are a family of peace…we are peacemakers.
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God.” Matthew 5:9.
