What Does Peace Really Mean?

The world might describe peace as absence of war or conflict.  But, peace is so much more when understood from a Hebrew perspective.  Shalom (Hebrew word for peace) was a greeting or blessing.  Remember when Yeshua Jesus told His disciples to “bless/greet/shalom/speak peace to” the house of those who welcomed them?   The shalom/peace blessing meant to bring safety, completeness, and wholeness in all areas of life!

This means unity (no division or disturbance) in what is good.  In 1 Corinthians 14:33 we read, “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace”.  Reflect back on James 3:16, “For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there”.

Confusion is lack of truth and brings about chaos.  Deception also causes confusion.  Confusion and deception disturb peace.  Confusion divides into pieces and peace unites into wholeness. So, we can see that to have true peace, we need to overcome confusion with truth. We need unity with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who is Truth.  Are you seeking peace?  Are you seeking Truth and His truth?

Is that the kind of peace you have in your life?  Is that the kind of peace you have with others?  There is only one way to have true peace….you need the Peacemaker on the inside, follow the Peacemaker inside and out, and share the Peacemaker with others. When people see us approaching, they should see and sense a shalom/peace blessing coming.

Shalom, my brothers and sisters in Yeshua Jesus!

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God.” Matthew 5:9.
