Matthew 5 reminds us that “blessed are those who….”….do or are something. These blessings end with being persecuted for righteousness. We learned that persecution is a tactic of the adversary to separate us and others from the Word. When Yeshua Jesus continues His message, He speaks about being salt and light (Matthew 5: 13-16)…..I believe in spite of the persecution that righteousness brings.
We are to be salt, not every day tasteless dust and dirt. We are to bring salt to the table. We season things up in the world. We do not just blend in with any flavor. We have a strong specific taste that goes on everything to make it taste better. But, what if we decide to stop being salty? Maybe the persecution due to righteousness is getting hard and it would be easier to blend in….do we lose our saltiness? Then, we become as common dust and dirt. Is that what we really want to be? We need to examine ourselves….am I salty? I hope to add some salty Word truth to the mix, rather then go along with the bland flavor of the world…..and be useless to the work of the kingdom of heaven.
What about light? Are we really light in the world? Darkness covers, but light exposes. Deception is darkness. The light of Word truth exposes deception. Darkness hides, but light shines for all to see. Deception tells us to go “underground” in our faith so that we do not shine our light into the world. Keep your belief and faith in Yeshua Jesus to yourself. Do we really want to live in the darkness of the world so we can “fit in”? Or are we willing to expose deception with Word truth and shine it out in the love of Yeshua Jesus? Love exposes deception because deception leads to traps, destruction, and death. People can choose to close their eyes to the light and return to darkness. Some are drawn by the sensual pleasures and entertainment in darkness. Others prefer darkness to persecution. Some do not want to partake in the fight of faith and prefer the happy-go-lucky attitude of “ignorance is bliss”. Do not be lured into the darkness in any way, shape or form. We are children of the Light and are to live and walk in the Light. The Light equips us so that we do NOT stumble and so that we can help others up out of the pit and darkness.
Psalms 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
John 8:12, “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 3:19, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
Be salt and light even when persecuted for righteousness.
