You may think you have heard all of this before, but we are talking about your eternal destiny here! Who or what is your hope for eternal salvation based on?
We should know that our ONLY sure hope of salvation is in Yeshua Jesus, the Messiah, the Chirst, the Son of God. He is the assured HOPE of salvation! That is assured fact and truth that we can put our hope into….. even when we do not currently see Him physically or have yet experienced our eternal salvation (Hebrews 11:1). Father Creator and Yeshua Jesus have assuredly fulfilled their promised grace covenant of eternal salvation for all those who receive Him in faith and hope. The Holy Spirit bears testimony of this in our heart.
Does that mean my hope of salvation is a sure thing? Well, am I depending on religion or am I depending on Yeshua Jesus? It also depends on my willingness to belong to Him….to be His people….to stay with Him….to endure to the end.
We might begin by hearing His Word and Truth…
John 3:16, “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Romans 10: 9-11, “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
So, a person might pray and confess, “God, I am sorry for my sins, I believe you exist and that Jesus came to save me…. I want this.” Is that all there is to it? Am I now “saved” and “born again”? Well, was it heartfelt? Was it spoken as a vow like you would speak at your marriage? What about what happens next? If I have really changed in my heart and become a new person in Him, and now have welcomed His Holy Spirit inside me, then I will also find that I begin to change in my heart, my thoughts, and my behaviors. I have a new Head, a new relationship, a new direction, a new life. It is time we really get to know one another and begin to work as a team. I do not just go back into the world as I once lived. I left that “boss” and the worlds’ ways….that “single” life. I have a new name and a new family!
Salvation and relationship with God is an unimaginable gift and that citizenship in the kingdom and family of God should bring us to our knees in repentance, thanksgiving, and praise….and inspire us to a life of service. Yet, in His love and grace, He calls us to intimate relationship! We become a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17), are given a new name (John 14:13, 1 Corinthians 6:11, Colossians 3:17) become His love, His bride (Ephesians 5), are given a new life (Romans 6:4), and we need to honor that new covenant relationship of love! By living and keeping in that close love relationship with Yeshua Jesus, we can be sure of our hope in living with Him in eternal salvation also.
