I am overwhelmed, overjoyed, and in awe at what the Holy Spirit has been teaching me concerning HOPE in how we now live now…. which continues into eternity! I have been in pursuit of this for the majority of my lifetime….and now I am beginning to see and understand! How very thankful I am for the Word the the Holy Spirit who teaches me! As this revelation pours into my spirit, there are multitudes of verses coming to mind to confirm its truth! It makes me feel like it is more than I can hold and I so do not want to lose any of it! I believe this message today is just a beginning and I know there is so much more to come concerning this Word of HOPE that He is revealing to me. But, I desire to try to put this HOPE into words so you can come along.
The Bible speaks a lot about “walking in the Spirit” and “living in the Spirit”….instead of “walking in the flesh”. In reality, how do we do that? Walking in the flesh is so easy and comes “naturally”. We are all born with a sinful nature. So, the world without Yeshua Jesus naturally lives in the flesh.
Here is the HOPE! When we are born again in the Spirit, we now have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us so that we are no longer bound to the flesh! Yeshua has set us free! We now have a choice….we can choose a new and living way of life by walking in the Spirit! And there is more good news to come….we will find we can walk in His way, His principles, His laws/standards! It is possible in Him! And it is not a burden but rather a rejoicing!
I had often read previously in His Word about walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh and would come under guilt and condemnation because I knew that I still sinned and walked in the flesh. I knew it was wrong. I knew it was sin. I knew it would have bad consequences. I knew it was rebellious. But in the past it brought me pleasure, so I wanted to do it and so I did. I also knew sin could come along with deception and bad company. But, it is difficult to break away from doing what everyone else is doing. Thank the Lord for verses like Romans 8:-4 and 1 John 1:9! I treasure them with HOPE as I struggle in learning to walk in the Spirit.
1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Romans 8:1-4, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
What has been added to my revelation of walking in the Spirit is that in one way it is a process. I am thinking it is similar to learning to walk in the natural. A small child does not learn to walk upright the first time they see their parents walk upright. They go through roll over, scoot on tummy, crawl, stand up, walk with supports, stand alone and finally walk! And in that process there are many falls! Does the parent condemn the child because they fall or because it takes time? No, they encourage, support, instruct, and discipline in love and grace, all with the expectation/hope that one day the child will walk! The walking standard/principle did not change.
Our Heavenly Father is the same when we are learning to walk in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit trains us every day with conviction, exhortation, encouragement, support, instruction, and even discipline when we are moving a direction not right. Plus, He knows that most people have a great deal to “unlearn” before they can learn to walk in His truth. Some of His children as so blinded by the world and so accustomed to walking in the flesh that they are not even aware there is another option as children of God. Let’s wake up and see that we have this new option! We are no longer bound to crawling in the dirt by walking in the flesh. Yeshua has made a way where there was no way…and now we can learn to walk in the Spirit! That is such a marvelous HOPE! Let’s start practicing to walk in the Spirit!
