Hope for Blessings

What blessings do we hope and pray for?  We often hope and pray for God to bless us in our health, our material and physical needs, our relationships, and our work.  This is good because we do have a responsibility and accountability to live righteously in this world.  Plus, He says we can come to Him and speak with Him concerning anything that concerns us.  But, before we can hope for these earthly things, let’s be established in our hope for the higher heavenly blessings.

Matthew 6: 19-23 (Amplified version) “Do not store up for yourselves material treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the very light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness!”

We want to be in the Light.  We want to see things from His perspective. So, what are these heavenly treasures and blessings that we are supposed to focus on?  We find them back in the beginning of this sermon of Yeshua Jesus in chapter 5!  Remember the beatitude blessings?  Take a close look at what the blessings are!  The great precious heavenly blessings are to be IN the kingdom of God eternally; to be comforted, forgiven, restored when sin destroys; to inherit the earth (the creation) God originally intended for man to dwell in and rule; to be completely satisfied in righteousness and be made perfect in Him; to receive mercy and give mercy – motivated by love; to see God and know His presence; to actually be called a child of God by adoption through Yeshua Jesus; to have peace and to be a bringer of peace between God and people through Yeshua Jesus.  Are you “open eyed” aware of these blessings in your life? Are these your high hopes?

Earthly blessings are temporary. They can be stolen or rot…and when we die, none of it goes with us.  But heavenly blessings are eternal and cannot be stolen and do not rot.  How much greater to put our hope in heavenly blessings!  What a better focus in life!

Ephesians 1 reminds us of more of these heavenly blessings.  We find that they are all IN Yeshua Jesus.  If we are not abiding and living in Yeshua Jesus, then we cannot expect or hope for any of these blessings.  But IN HIM, we hope and are blessed with exceedingly great heavenly blessings.

Ephesians 1 reminds us of the blessings of His grace and peace.  We are reminded of God’s great purpose and plan…. before the foundation of the world and motivated by His great love…. to have a big family. He chose us to be a holy righteous people and provided the way through the pure spotless blood or His only begotten Son, Yeshua Jesus.  In this way, He lavished His love and grace on us in forgiveness, by paying the penalty for our sin resulting in our complete pardon! And He has prepared for us a heavenly inheritance!  The Holy Spirit is the first installment of this heavenly inheritance!

Do you see the immensity of our heavenly blessings?  Do you see how much higher our hopes are than anything anyone in the world without Yeshua Jesus could ever hope for?  These are assured hopes when we abide IN HIM!  What praise and thanksgiving should pour out of our hearts and minds towards Father, Son Yeshua Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!  All my hope is IN HIM.  All glory, honor, thanksgiving, power, and praise to Yeshua Jesus our Lord and Savior…in whom we hold fast to our highest heavenly hopes!
