Hope in the Promises of God

Be encouraged to put your hope in God’s PROMISES.  He keeps His Word and performs it.  But, we must be sure to interpret His Word in truth.  And we should not use His Word to try to manipulate or test Him.  But, we can put faith and hope in His Word and talk with Him about everything in prayer.  We should search His Word to find out what He says about the issues we are dealing with and what we can hope for concerning all resolutions.  But the Word of God is big…where do I start searching for His answers?

There are many good Scripture based handbooks that categorize the PROMISES of God by topic.  These are so helpful when you find yourself with a particular need or desire and want to check what God covers  in His Word.  Or as I have suggested before, you can go to www.biblegateway.com and search by topic.  For example, if your struggle is with finances, then search “money” or “need”.

First, let’s check out what God says about His PROMISES and my short comments:

2 Corinthians 1:20, “For no matter how many PROMISES God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.  And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”  (Yeshua Jesus is the foundation and Way of every promise….they all are realized through Him.)

2 Corinthians 7:1, “Therefore since we have these PROMISES, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”  (Such great promises should motivate us to live in His purity and righteousness.)

Ephesians 2:12, “remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the PROMISE, without hope and without God in the world.”  (We should always present our righteous hopes before God with great thanksgiving and praise.)

2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow in keeping His PROMISE, as some understand slowness.  Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”  (Sometimes His wisdom and promise says “wait” and sometimes requires repentance.)

Hebrews 10:23, 36 “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who PROMISED is faithful……You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has PROMISED.”  (When we know our hope in His promise is true, we need to be faithful and hold fast in doing God’s will!)

Hebrews 11:13, “All these people were still living by faith when they died.  They did not receive the things PROMISED; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.”  (What a message to the “gotta have it not” generation! Some promises we will not see until after earthly physical death.)

James 1:12, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has PROMISED to those who love.”  (Not all blessings and promises are easy!)

1 John 2:25, “And this is what He PROMISED us – eternal life.”  (This is the promise of resurrection and eternal life with Him…our blessed HOPE and sure PROMISE!)

In quick summary: Know what God has promised.  Yeshua Jesus is the foundation and way to every promise….without Him there is no promise and no hope. We should be motivated by His promises to live righteously and in reverence towards Father, Son and Holy Spirit…with thanksgiving.  Often we have to wait…and we may not see the fulfillment of the promise in your own lifetime, but God is faithful. We need to hold fast and persevere in faith with patience and sometimes even endurance through trial.  Not all promises are easy to “walk out”.  But He is faithful to His promises.  We can hold fast our hope and faith IN HIM and in His promises.
