We should ask, but do not assume the answer will come quickly or as you expected.
James 1:2-8, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”
The Holy Spirit reminds us that putting our hopes and prayers in Him sometimes requires patience, waiting, perseverance, and endurance. We must hold fast in faith, not wavering or doubting His promises. When we pray and ask knowing that He hears us, then comes the waiting. This is when doubt and double-mindedness comes to tempt us. Instead of waiting on the Holy Spirit to lead and answer…we want to make a quick decision that seems logical or feels good…and just get it done. Even if we do wait and hear what to do, we still need to persevere in doing what He says. Sometimes that takes perseverance and endurance…and may require work, extra effort, and remaining single minded.
We must trust in our heavenly Father, our Savior and Lord Yeshua Jesus and the leading of the Holy Spirit….in asking….in waiting…in doing follow through. He is faithful to provide our needs. Sometimes I have found Him to say to trust Him and He will handle it….that can also be a challenge.
He is concerned about everything in our lives…and so we can fellowship with Him and ask Him about everything! Yet, I sense that it is our heavenly treasures that seem of more importance to Him. This is much different than the “prosperity and blessing” gospel being preached today. Father, Yeshua Jesus, and Holy Spirit are faithful and we must stand faithful as well. Seek and obey Him… and He will provide all our needs….spiritually and physically. His blessing is so much greater than “what I want” or materialistic gain. He is our blessing and our hope!
