The Bible teaches us about having living faith instead of dead faith.
Matthew 4:4, “But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
James 2 : 17-21, “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?”
Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, 16:8….Jesus speaks to them saying, “Oh you of little faith” and wonders why they doubted and did not trust Him. Their mouth said they trusted Him, but they did not have corresponding actions.
Remember, it is not what we say, but rather what we really believe and trust in that we act on!
He encourages us to TRUST Him for He is faithful and His Word is true and never changes.
Proverbs 3: 5-7, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.”
But, go back to the first verses in Proverbs 3: 1-3, “My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart..”
If we are going to trust and follow, we first need to know Him and His righteous “laws” and ways. If we do not know Him and how He does things, how can we copy and follow Him? If we do not learn and know, then we remain foolish!
Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
We must know Him and learn His Word which leads us to trusting Him and what He says….. so that we actually act accordingly and live by it. That is living faith! If we do not know Him in real relationship, but rather only as the main “hero” in our church system…..If we do not know Him and His character….If we do not know how He operates…If we do not know the truth He proclaims…If we do not know what He has said by promise…then how can we TRUST HIM and TRUST HIS WORD so that we would actually follow Him? We would just go back to living what we have trusted in the world.
He calls us to persevere in knowing Him and His Word and to TRUST Him. He is faithful, even when we only have little real faith! He still pulls us up out of the stormy seas, gives us food to eat, and saves us in time of trouble. He knows whose heart is right towards Him and who is really trying to live in faith…as opposed to those in dead faith (those who say they believe, but do not trust and do not follow Him). He comes to the aid of even a little faith! Why do you think even a little faith can move mountains…He is a mountain mover!
In many places, Jesus tells us that in this world there will be many troubles and trials and tribulations….but He always adds that we should not be dismayed because He has overcome the world and is able to save us! We will need to endure for a time, but He has the ultimate victory! He asks that we stay focused on Him, trust Him, stay in peace, in everything give Him thanks…because He never leaves or forsakes us…so, stay standing on the Rock in all the storms (Matthew 7: 24-25).
Keep trusting Him….keep up a living faith….and believe His promises:
Romans 8: 35-39, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:
“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Did you hear that? Not things present or things to come, not death or demons, no created thing can separate us from God’s love for His children with living faith! You may want to put all of Romans 8 in your mind and heart as a preparation…in case things in this world get worse….so that you are not looking to and trusting the world, but rather walking in living faith with trust in Jesus, our Savior and Lord.
Philippians 4: 6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
