Why do bad things happen to good people? Christian Worldview

Have you ever wondered why bad things happen to good people?  It doesn’t seem fair!  And why do bad things happen to Christians if they are believing in an all-powerful God?

First, let’s remember why bad things happen…..

Bad things happen because we still live in a fallen world with people (including ourselves) who all have a fallen human nature.  When Adam and Eve sinned, they fell from Life into death..and as the ones in authority over the earth…the earth fell with them.  We became enslaved by satan and his mutinous kingdom.  Because seed can only reproduce its own kind….everyone born since then has a fallen nature.  But, God had and still has a plan!

Jesus told us that in this world we would have trouble and trials:

John 16:33, “ I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you’ll have trouble, but be courageous—I’ve overcome the world!”

Matthew 6:33-34, “First be concerned about God’s kingdom and his righteousness,[r] and all of these things will be provided for you as well. So never worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 7: 24-25, “Therefore, everyone who listens to these messages[f] of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, but it did not collapse because its foundation was on the rock.”

John 15: 20, “Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you’”.

When speaking through the prophet Zephaniah 1:14-18, God tells us about the tribulation in the Last Days:

The great Day of the Lord approaches—
How it comes, hurrying faster and faster!
The sound of the Day of the Lord there
includes the bitter cry of the mighty soldier.
That day will be filled with wrath,
a day of trouble and tribulation,
a day of desolation and devastation,
a day of doom and gloom,
a day of clouds and shadows,
a day of trumpet and battle cry
against fortified cities and watch towers.

“And I’ll bring so much distress to people
that they will walk around like the blind.
Because they have sinned against the Lord,
their blood will be poured out like dust
and their intestines will spill out like manure.
Neither their silver nor their gold will deliver them
in the Day of the Lord’s wrath;
but the entire land will be consumed
by the fire of his jealousy,
for he will bring the inhabitants of the land to a sudden end.”

We see that there will be trouble/tribulation until the Last Day, when God does battle against evil and wins!  But also notice, that even before this time, Jesus has already overcome the world and comes to save us!  “Bad things” are a certainty in this world in this evil age….for all people!  It is just how we react that makes all the difference!

Do we turn to Jesus and the salvation He offers us…focus on Him in faith and patience and endurance…and overcome with Him as He pulls us out of the water or the ditch of storm and trouble?  Who do we look to in the storm (Matthew 14)?  Are we standing and living on the Rock foundation (Matthew 7)?

Truth – evil is here in this world….against everyone, including persecution for the Christian.  But, our Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit will never leave or forsake us!
