2 Timothy 3:1-4:8 (Amplified version):
But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times of great stress and trouble will come, difficult days that will be hard to bear. For people will be lovers of self (narcissistic, self-focused), lovers of money (impelled by greed), boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane, and they will be unloving (including devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane), irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control (intemperate, immoral), brutal, haters of good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of sensual pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of outward godliness (religion), although they have denied its power, for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith. Avoid such people and keep far away from them.
For among them are those who worm their way into homes and captivate morally weak and spiritually-dwarfed women (weaker ones) weighed down by the burden of their sins, easily swayed by various impulses, always learning and listening to anybody who will teach them, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres, the court magicians of Egypt, opposed Moses, so these also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, unqualified and worthless as teachers in regard to the faith. But they will not get very far, for their meaningless nonsense and ignorance will become obvious to everyone, as was that of Jannes and Jambres.
Now you have diligently followed my example, that is my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, steadfastness, persecutions, and sufferings—such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, but the Lord rescued me from them all! Indeed, all who delight in pursuing righteousness and are determined to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be hunted and persecuted because of their faith. But evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, holding tightly to the truths, knowing from whom you learned them, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings (Hebrew Scriptures) which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus, the surrendering your entire self to Him and having absolute confidence in His wisdom, power and goodness.
All Scripture is God-breathed, given by divine inspiration, and is profitable for instruction, for conviction of sin, for correction of error and restoration to obedience, for training in righteousness, the learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word as an official messenger; be ready when the time is right and even when it is not – keep your sense of urgency, whether the opportunity seems favorable or unfavorable, whether convenient or inconvenient, whether welcome or unwelcome; correct those who err in doctrine or behavior, warn those who sin, exhort and encourage those who are growing toward spiritual maturity, with inexhaustible patience and faithful teaching.
For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction that challenges them with God’s truth; but wanting to have their ears tickled with something pleasing, they will accumulate for themselves many teachers, one after another, chosen to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold, and will turn their ears away from the truth and will wander off into myths and man-made fictions and will then accept the unacceptable. But as for you, be clear-headed in every situation, stay calm and cool and steady, endure every hardship without flinching, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill the duties of your ministry.
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure from this world is at hand and I will soon go free. I have fought the good and worthy and noble fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, firmly guarding the gospel against error. In the future there is reserved for me the victor’s crown of righteousness for being right with God and doing right, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that great day—and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved and longed for and welcomed His appearing.”
This says it all! Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you how this is so immensely applicable to us today! The strong delusion/deception of humanism is the root of the fall of man from relationship with God and His good truth. Humanism is man pursuing and following his own way….away from God. Satan has had a long time to build on this humanistic thought over many generations…..and has convinced the multitude that it is good. It is twisted deception. It is good that people love and help one another…but that is the second commandment. The first is to love the Lord, our Creator Father God, Jesus His only Begotten Son, and His Holy Spirit first! We cannot be good without God. Our whole purpose and fulfillment is to be the object of His love! Why would we want to go any other way? Our main desire and foundation needs to be in Him! Humanism…doing perceived good together without Him will not work…it is a strong delusion!
