Genesis 45

We have been noting how Joseph’s life was prophetic of Jesus.  Keep that in mind as you read on…

The last time we ended with Joseph revealing himself to his brothers.  He forgives his brothers for their intentions to kill him and selling him off to foreigners.  He understands this was planned by God in order to set up their escape and salvation from famine and death in the world.  The head of the kingdom had now raised him up to his right hand to oversee the 1/5 grace harvest.  Joseph was now supplying the bread to sustain life.

Joseph explains to his brothers that only 2 years of famine have passed, there are still 5 more ahead.  (This completes the perfect cycle of God = 7 years.  Note that there are 2000 years (2 years, 2 days)of patriarchs and 5000 (5 years, 5 days) more years of grace under Jesus for the righteous completed cycle of mankind’s authority over earth before the new heaven and new earth are created!)

So, being there is still famine, they must get their father and bring him and the whole tribe back to Egypt under Joseph.  Notice also, the famine years began with 2 years of struggling in division with the brothers, but ends in agreement and fellowship (remember their father Jacob struggled with God and then came to fellowship later).  Then, 5 years of grace to live in Joseph’s provision follow.  Arrangements are made for Joseph’s whole family tribe to live in Goshen so that they have the best pasture land for their flocks.  It is also better to separate them from the Egyptians because Egyptians do not like to associate with herdsmen. God requires a people set apart for Him.

The brothers are sent back to get their father with 10 male donkeys and 10 female donkeys…10 being the full measure of human organization…plus the ability to reproduce and multiply.  The full blood, favored brother, Benjamin, is given special gifts of 300 pieces of silver…3 with the zeros meaning multiplication from the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Plus, Benjamin also gets 5 fine garments…for us in Jesus this is a robe of righteousness given by grace.

When Joseph sends his brothers back to retrieve the whole family and to explain all this to their father, he tells them NOT to quarrel along the way (Amplified Bible verse 24) about what to say and do.  They are going to have to confess to their father and everyone how they sold Joseph off and faked his death…requiring painful and humbling confession of sin and repentance.  It would be a temptation to quarrel and discuss other options…maybe even keep all the gifts Joseph had given and forsake him again….just trying to get through the next 5 years of famine another way.  They had betrayed Joseph before!  But, they do follow through and tell the truth…and convince their father to go with them back to Joseph in Egypt.

Setting all the past aside, the father desires to see Joseph alive before he dies! Setting all our past aside, we must determine to see Jesus alive and risen from the dead and seated at the right hand of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords…before we ourselves die!

I am reminded of the verse below…think on its significance…Luke 1: 15-17 (also referenced in Malachi 4:6)…this is speaking of John the Baptist who will go before the coming of Jesus to prepare the way….

“he will be filled with the Holy Spirit…He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.  And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous – to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Are you prepared?  If so, has your heart been turned to make children ready for the coming of the Lord?

If you have read this far and understand…and have listened and heard what the Spirit is saying to the churches…..then the Spirit of God is calling you!
