Exodus 23: 13…God instructs….Be careful to do what I say and be careful what you say! Stay on GUARD!
First part of the verse, “Now concerning everything I have said to you, be on your GUARD.” In other words….know it, remember it, defend it, and do it.
Proverbs 4:13, “Take hold of instruction, actively seek it, grip it firmly and do not let it go. GUARD her (wisdom and instruction) for she is your life.”
Proverbs 19: 16, “He who keeps and obeys the commandment of the Lord, keeps and GUARDS his own life, but he who is careless of his ways and conduct will die.”
Deuteronomy 6: 6-7, “These words that I am commanding you today shall be written on your hearts and minds. You shall teach them diligently to your children impressing God’s precepts on their minds and penetrating their hearts with His truth and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.” (that is continual GUARD.)
1 John 5: 21, “GUARD yourselves from idols – false teachings, moral compromises, and anything that would take God’s place in your heart.”
2 Peter 3:17, “let me warn you beloved…be on your GUARD so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men who distort doctrine, and fall from your own steadfastness of mind, knowledge, truth, and faith.”
1 Corinthians 16:13, “Be on GUARD, stand firm in your faith in God, respecting His precepts(Word, commandments, instructions) and keeping your doctrine sound. Act like mature men, and be courageous, be strong.”
Second part of the verse….”do not mention the names of other gods either in a blessing or a curs, do not let such speech be heard coming from your mouth.” GUARD your mouth…what you say!
Psalm 141:3, “Set a GUARD, O Lord, over my mouth, keep watch over the door of my lips to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly.”
Proverbs 21: 23, “He who GUARDS his mouth and his tongue, GUARDS himself from trouble.”
1 Timothy 6:20, “GUARD and keep safe the deposit of godly truth entrusted to you, turn away from worldly chatter with its profane empty worlds and the contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge.”
James 3:10, ” Out of the mouth comes both blessing and cursing. These things, my brothers, should not be this way, for we have a moral obligation to speak in a manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect for His precepts (Word, commands, instructions).” GUARD your mouth!
Matthew 5: 33-37, “Do not make an oath at all, either by heaven for it is the throne of God, or by earth for it is His footstool…..let your statement be yes or no, anything more than that comes from the evil one.”
James 1:26, “If anyone thinks himself to be religious and does not control his tongue, but deludes his own heart, this person’s religion is useless.”
I recommend reading James 3. It will surely convict you to begin to GUARD your mouth.
