Revelation 21 The Bride of Christ

Verse 1 – All things are brand new! The sea no longer exists. I think this is interesting because the “sea” represented the Gentiles, or those who were not God’s people. This new creation is only for God’s people. Plus, the sea represents confusion and division, thus no more confusion and division.
Verse 2 – While the Whore of Babylon was a wicked city in union with Satan, the new Jerusalem is a holy, beautiful city out of heaven and adorned for Christ, her husband.
Verse 3 – God’s mighty voice speaks from His throne of authority….God is personally living with mankind and they shall be His people, and He will be their God. This is like the marriage vow declaration. This has been God’s intention from the beginning. He exemplified this in the Old Covenant under Abraham and Moses, when God intended to be husband to Israel and Israel to be His people, His bride. Read these verses in the Amplified Bible:
Jeremiah 24: 7, “And I will give them a heart to know (recognize, understand, and be acquainted with) Me, that I am the Lord, and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.”
Jeremiah 31:33, Hebrews 8:10, “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel: After those days, says the Lord, I will put My law within them, and on their hearts will I write it, and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”
Ezekiel 11:20, “That they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances, and do them, And they shall be My people, and I will be their God.”
Ezekiel 37: 27, “My tabernacle or dwelling place also shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Zechariah 8:8, “And I will bring them home and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and they shall be My people, and I will be their God in truth and faithfulness and in righteousness.”
Zechariah 9:16, “And the Lord their God will save them on that day as the rlock of His people, for they shall be as the precious jewels of a crown, lifted high over and shining glitteringly upon His land.”
Matthew 1:21, “She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus (the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, whikch means Savior), for He will save His people from their sins (that is prevent them from failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God).
2 Corintthians 6:16, “What agreement can there be between a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God, even as God said, “I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”
Romans 11: 17, Paul is teaching the Gentile Christians that they can also be united to Yeshua Jesus Christ and be His people…..”Some of the branches were broken off, while you, a wild shoot, were grarted in among them to share the richness of the root and sap of the olive tree.”
Ephesians 2: 13-16, The Old Covenant Law of Sin and Death between Israel and God is replaced by a new and better covenant, The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. This is the new marriage covenant. “Now in Christ Jesus, you who once were so far away through the blood of Christ have been brought near. For He is Himself our peace, our bond of unity and harmony), He has made us both Jew and Gentile one body, and has broken down (destroyed, abolished) the hostile dividing wall between us. By abolishing in His own crucified flesh the enmity caused by the Law with its decrees and ordinances which He annulled, that He from the two might create in Himself one new man, one new qualit of humanity out of the two, so making peace. And He designed to reconcile to God both Jew and Gentile, united in a single body by means of His cross.”
This is the new Bride of Christ who will dwell and abide with and in Him. She loves Him with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength! She is faithful! She pursues righteousness in Him! She rejoices in Him! She is His Bride! He is her Bridegroom and Lord! He is the love of her life!
Verse 4-5 – God gives His wedding vow of promise. He will wipe away every tear. There will be no more anguish, sorrow, mourning, grief, pain, or death. Those things have passed away and are gone. He has already made all things new for her. You can put His words on record….He is faithful, accurate, incorruptible, trustworthy, and true. This is the genuine word of God.
Verse 6-7, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” God ( Father, only begotten Son, and Holy Spirit, unified in purpose) began this creation together that they might have a family of their own people to love and live with and now it is done! He is the living water and the fountain of life to quench the thirst of His people. This relationship is intimate as with a bridegroom and his bride, but also as close as a father and his son.
Verse 8 – There is no more wickedness here, nothing to attack His bride, His people. That is all in the lake of fire, in the second death.
Verse 9 – This bride, the Lamb’s wife, has been prepared. What does she “look” like?
Verse 10 – She descends from heaven, a holy, hallowed, and consecrated place. The Lamb has made her righteous before the throne of the Father. Consider the opposite of Satan who ascended from the pit.
Verse 11 – God has put His glory, splendor, and radiance upon her, appearing as clear shining crystal. She is anointed of God in purity.
Verse 12 – 14, She is protected and established securely in the Old Covenant through the 12 tribes of Judah (gates) with an angel at each gate. There are 3 gates on each side. This is the same way God instructed the Israelites to make camp around His Tabernacle presence. This protected and established position is also in the New Covenant and gospel as spread through the 12 apostles (foundations). Yeshua Jesus is the promise, prophecy, Word and fulfillment of it all. Twelve symbolizes God’s power and authority and His perfect governmental foundation in completeness. This is a massive foundation and secure protection.
Verse 15-18 Remember in Revelation 11 where John was instructed to measure the temple sanctuary, the alter of incense, and the number of those who worship there? Now, the whole city is being measured! It is 12,000 stadia square (length, width, and height). The 12,000 signifies the complete perfect govenance of God as Lord over great multitudes in His city! The wall is 144 cubits….12×12…remember the secure foundation of 12 and gates of 12? The wall is also double secure and protecting.
Verse 19-20 The foundations of stone (apostles of the gospel) are beautiful and precioius. The list of specific gems reminds me of Exodus 28: 16-21 which describes the breastplate of judgement in its square shape with 12 gems, each representing one of the tribes of Israel. It seems to me that responsibility of judging with Christ is now passed on to His apostles. I am also reminded of the breastplate of righteousness in Ephesians 6:14 that covers the heart. Yeshua Jesus lived with and closely fellowshipped with His apostles during His ministry time on earth.
Verse 21 a – The 12 gates (tribes of Israel) are signified by one solid large pearl. I am reminded of Yeshua Jesus parable concerning the man who found a pearl of great price and sold all he had to get it. When the tribes of Israel find out that Yeshua Jesus is their true promised Messiah and sell all their religion and law to get Him, they become the gate to the city, by bing in Christ (who is the door and the true gate)!
Verse 21 b – The main street is broad, gold, and translucent. Yeshua Jesus is the Way, the Truth, the Life. There is no darkness in Him. He shines and reveals the truth. He makes the way to Life open and straight and wide. This is the opposite of the fallen world where His way was narrow and few could find it, rather they were falling in the wide path to destruction.
Verses 22-24 – The Omnipotent Lamb Himself is the temple. His holy presence is with His people throughout the whole city. And He is the Light of the kingdom. His splendor, radiance, and glory illuminate His people. The Lamb, the Word, The Bridegroom is the Lamp. “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119: 105. All God’s people in His kingdom will walk by this Light, His Word, including the leaders who will return their glory to the King.
Verse 25 – The gates will always be open. There will be no darkness or time for sleeping. In other words, God is saying, “My door is always open and the lights are on.” We are always welcome to fellowship with Him!
Verses 26-27 The people of God who are now robed in the glory of God will now bring honor into His house. Nothing ugly, dirty, evil, or false is allowed in His new kingdom. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life are intended for His Bride, to live with Him in His holy city! It is going to be a great and wonerful home!
