Chapter 6 Why I Believe In Hell

Hell is a subject most people, including me, do not want to think about or discuss. So, usually we don’t. But, it is a very important subject because it has eternal, forever consequences. And who can even imagine forever and eternity?
But, the Bible tells us about this eternal dwelling place that is without God. People who do not choose God and to follow Him, go there. The Bible refers to it as “hell”, “gehenna”, “the lake of fire”, “Sheol”, “the place of the dead”, and even “under the earth”. Hell is separation from God. Jeus taught and warned about hell.
Remember when Jesus bore the sins of the world and cried out, “My God, why have you forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). It is a dark place with no light because God is the Light. It is a dead place with no life because God is the Life. It is a place of everything bad, because God is good. It is a place of guilt, shame and regret, because without God there is no forgiveness. It is a place of rebellion, violence, and fear, because the head of this kingdom is the rebellious fallen angel, Satan.
God has no plesure in this place called hell. In Ezekiel 33:11, it says, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked.” And in 1 Timothy 2: 3-4, we read, “God our Savior, who wishes all men to be saved and incresingly to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the divine Truth. For there is only one God, and only one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all people…”
This is the whole theme of the Bible’s gospel (good news) message! Mankind fell into sin and death. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit went through centuries of laborsome efforts to make a way for mankind to be saved, to be restored to relationship with God, into His righteousness again. But, God does not force people into a relationship with Him. He has always given mankind free will. We choose who we love and follow, and therefore which kingdom we live in. Hell is the kingdom separated from God. Some people even experience “hell on earth” because they are separated from God and have no Savior, no Helper, no Comforter and no hope!
So, when people say they cannot believe that a loving God would send people to hell forever, now you know the error in that way of thinking. In His love, He welcomes everyone into relationship with Him through Jesus. He desires all to come into His righteous kingdom and has even made a way. It is not the love of God that sends people to hell. It is the place for those who choose to be separate from God. God is also the holy just Judge of Righteousness.
Even in our moral nature and conscience, humans know there is need for justice. We know there is right and wrong. We know that there need to be consequences for doing wrong. Kennecy says, “we approve virtue and condemn vice.” We must remember that God is holy and no sin can be in His presence; it is consumed in His holines. Isaiah 6:3, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.” If a holy and just God would tolerate sin, then He could not truly uphold righteousness!
Kennedy spends a great deal of time discussing “eternity”. That is because it is so serious! It is very serious where a person will spend forever!!!
Hell is no myth, but rather a real place. Remember the testimonies of some of the 500 people who had near death experiences and discovered the reality of hell? They became very serious and intent about coming to know Jesus! It is worth a person’s time and intense pursuit to come to know Jesus now. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
Examine the evidence. Ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you. Then, repent of your sins and ask Jesus to be your Savior and Lord, with intensions to continuously come to know Him more and follow Him as closely as you know to do. Ask Him and He will send you a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to lead you and help you through this life, with hope, peace, joy, and endurance. We will no longer be people walking in the dark and gloom of this world. We will be people who walk in the light and in the peace that passes worldly understanding, with exceeding hope, joy and thanksgiving.
“If we really are living and walking in the Light, as He Himself is in the Light, we have true, unbroken fellowship with one another (Jesus and me), and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses and removes us from all sin and guilt, keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations. If we say we have no sin, refusing to admit that we are sinners, we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth is not in us, does not dwell in our hearts. If we freely admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins (dismiss our lawlessness) and continuously cleanse us from all unrighteousness, everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought and action. If we say we have not sinned, we contradict His Word and make Him out to be false and a liar, and His word is not in us, the divine revelation of the Gospel is not in our hearts.” 1 John 1:7-10
Now, if you want to know how you should live this new life in Christ Jesus, continue to read 1 John 2. Flee from sin and hell, run into the arms of Jesus!
