Hebrews 8

Hebrews 8
The main point is that we have a great High Priest seated at the right hand of the majestic God! He sits in God’s real holy tabernacle! This is a heavenly Priesthood for all and forever…who offers His own blood to God as payment for the sin of mankind. This is in a much more excellent tabernacle and a much more superior sacrifice than the foreshadow we had on earth under the Old Covenant Law. Jesus is the Mediator of much more important promises of eternal salvation! If the Old Covenant and sacrifices would have been satisfactory, then there would have been no need for a New Covenant and new High Priest.
Verse 8 quotes Jeremiah 31: 31-34. These Hebrew Christians would have been familiar with this text. These verses remind us that God had promised this new and superior covenant to His people (Israel and Judah). It will not be like the Old Covenant established after He delivered them from Egypt and eventually brought them to the Promised Land. This new covenant will not only be a written word. It will be a covenant imprinted on thier minds, even their innermost thoughts and understanding, and engraved on their hearts. God said that He would be their God and they would be His people…His family! And it will no longer be a matter of knowledge of the Law through training by elders. All of His people from small to great will actually come to know Him by themselves and their experiences with the Lord. He will be gracious and merciful toward their sins and not even remember their deeds of unrighteousness anymore.
When God speaks of a New Covenant agreement, He makes the first one obsolete….it is annulled so that it is dispensed and disappears altogether. Jesus is the final sacrifice and the final and only High Priest.
Now, do you really think it is a good thing to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and begin animal sacrifices again? That would actually be an insult and abomination to God and to Jesus who gave so much of themsleves to offer the new and final covenant with God! What other lies and propaganda might you have been listening to? I know that in reading these verses, I have had to reconsider some teachings I have heard that claimed to be Christian. We must seek out the mind of Christ and find the actual truth in His Word.
“Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105
